Microwaved Baked Potatoes - Tip for best results
This is a quick tip for cooking jacket potatoes in the microwave! First off select a good sized potato (about the size of your fist or bigger) - something like a King Edward potato works well. Wash and dry it. (THIS IS THE IMPORTANT TIP) Contrary to a lot of preparation techniques, instead of stabbing the potato with a fork, take a sharp knife (be careful not to cut yourself) and make quarter to half inch deep slices across the narrowest part of the potato, approximately 3/4 of inch apart. Do this to one side of the potato. Put the potato on a microwave-proof dish, select full power, and cook it for 9 minutes. To test that it is ready or not stick your sharp knife in the side of it, if it goes in easily its ready - if not a may need a few minutes more. WARNING Potatoes cooked in a microwave are extremely hot. When removing them from the microwave been sure to handle them with an over glove or something similar! No you have your perfectly cooked microwaved baked potato, place it onto your plate, or bowl slice down the center of the potato about 3/4 into it and let it fall open. Your potato should be nice and soft on the inside - and ready for the best bit... the filling! Thats the best part of this quick and easy snack/meal you can load it with practically anything you like from cheese to tuna fish and mayo! Remember though for best results slice it don't stab it's not your enemy! |
