Dot Mobi - Website's for cell phones...
Dot Mobi is actually a top level domain name prefix similar to .com, .net ,.org etc - it's prefix is actually .mobi Why Dot Mobi?
The point of the dot mobi domain is to make people aware that content viewed on a website with a dot mobi domain extension should be easily accessible by any mobile device such as pda's, cell phones, etc What's the point?
If you try and access a regular website on your cell phone, a number of things will happen, the site is scaled down to a point you cant view it properly; the site will look all jumbled up; or the site wont work at all. You will probably have limited navigation functionality too. With a dot mobi site that is designed in accordance to the mobile style guide, the site will be easy to navigate, view and be accessible by nearly all of todays mobile gadgets. With a website that is dot mobi compatible you offer your resources and content to be available to people on the go. This is a great opportunity to capture people who are in transit, or even at work, or places that dont have computers or laptops. Since there are almost triple the amount of cell phones as they are PC's it makes sense to make this information available to people on the go. This is a great way to offer up to date information and content. Think about advertising a dot mobi website at a tube station, or an outdoor event - people can check out the site there and then on their phones! How do i connect?
Most cell phone providers offer some kind of package that allow people to surf online with their mobile device, without having this feature included in your package it can by expensive so always check first before going online with your cell phone. Sprint for example offer a fast internet service that is almost comparable to broadband. What type of content can i put on my dot mobi website?

1) Keep the domain name short - most phones allow people to bookmark the site so its not a major problem.
2) Keep the content straight to the point and short, you dont want your user scrolling forever.
3) Ensure your navigation includes access keys, this will allow the user to navigate the website with their numberic keypad on the phone
4) Never use tables in your code!
